The Visitor


The Polytechnic is owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Visitor to the Polytechnic is Honourable Minister of Education.

 


The Governing Council


The Council id the governing body of the Polytechnic. Its functions include the formulation of policies and the control of the property and finances of the Institution. The Governing Council consists of the Chairman and the following members, to be appointed by the President:

 

  1. One person to represent the universities;
  2. One person to represent the manufacturers’ association of Nigeria;
  3. One person to represent professional bodies whose discipline are taught of the Polytechnic;
  4. One person selected from a Federal or State public utility statuary corporation;
  5. One person of standing in the community where the Polytechnic is situated;
  6. The Rector of the Polytechnic;
  7. One representative of the Federal Ministry of Education charged with the responsibility of matters relating to the Polytechnics;
  8. One representative of the Director-General of the Ministry charged responsibility for matters relating to the industries;
  9. One representative of the Academic Board of the Polytechnic;
  10. One representative of the State Ministry of Education; and
  11. Five other persons, at least one of whom shall be a woman, to be selected each on his personal merits based on his/her contribution to either development of industry, technology or commerce or his/her special interest in technical education.

The Rector

The Rector  is the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the Polytechnic. He is appointed by the Visitor to the Institution on the recommendation of the  Council. He has the power to exercise general authority over both the staff and students, and he  is also responsible for discipline in the Polytechnic.

 

The Deputy Rector

The Deputy Rector is appointed by the Council from among the Chief Lecturers on the Rector’s recommendation. He is responsible to the Rector and also acst for him in his absence.

 

The Registrar

Mrs. Adediran

 The Registrar is appointed by the Council. She is responsible to Rector for the day-today administrative affairs of the Polytechnic. She is also the custodian of the Polytechnic’s records on staffs, students and other matters that are considered essential to the effective running of the Institution.

 

The Bursar

The Bursar is appointed by the Council. He is responsible to the Rector for the day-to –day administration of the finances of the Polytechnic.

The Registry


 

The Registry is one of the service department that assist the Chief Executive in the day-to-day administration of the Polytechnic. Te department keeps records of all official activities and interprets rules and regulations that guide their conduct. Te Registry is made up of

 

  • Registrar’s Office
  • Academic Units I & II
  • Establishment (Personnel) Units I & II
  • Council Affairs Unit
  • Students’ Affairs Unit

 

Registrar’s Office

The Registrar coordinates the activities of all the units in the Registry. She is responsible to the Rector on all administrative issues and is the Secretary to the Polytechnic Governing Council as well as all other statuary bodies.

The registrar is assisted by a number of career administrators who are centrally deployed to the various units in the Registry and in the Polytechnic as a whole.

All in-coming mails are processed in the Registrar’s Office before they are dispatched to the various units or offices for further actions.

 

Academic Affairs Division

The Academic Affairs Division of the Registry consists of two main Units, each with its own structure i.e Academic Affairs I(Admissions) and Academic Affairs II (Examination and Records). On the whole, the Division, under the supervision of the Registrar and headship of two Deputy Registrars, keeps all records on the students’ academic activities, processes admissions, registers students in conjunction with academic departments, sends notification of results transcripts and certificates to students as appropriate. The Division also services the Academic Board, which is the highest policy-making body on academic matters.

 

Establishment of Personnel Division

The Establishment Registry Division also consists of two main units, each headed by a Senior Registry Staff under the overall supervision of the Registrar. The Units, Senior Staff Matters and Junior Staff Matters, assists the Registrar in coordinating all personnel matters like recruitment, promotions, general welfare and discipline of staff.

 

Council Affairs Unit

The Unit is the secretariat for the Governing Council and its Committees. A Senior Registry staff heads the Unit under the supervision of the Registrar and in turn assisted by a number of other subordinate staff. The Unit services the meetings of the Governing Council and its Committees, and performs other related functions as may be determined. 


Students’ Affairs Unit


The Unit is headed by a Principal Assistant Registrar, assists students to integrate into their new environment. The functions of the Principal Assistant Registrar include:

  • Operating in liaison with the Dean, Students’ Affairs for the day-to-day administration of the Unit.
  • Seeing to the general welfare of the students in the area of hostel accommodation for the eligible.
  • Supervising and co-ordinating Students’ Union election and other activities.
  • Mobilizing graduating Higher National Diploma students for the country’s compulsory Youth Service Corps Scheme.
  • Responsible for handling the registration of students’ social and religious association.
  • Maintaining peace and order within the student’s body as well as between the students and management.
  • Processing documentation of scholarships and other financial aids to deserving students.
  • Coordinating other student-related activities.
